After the first major flurry of this summer’s damn fool crazy glut of the new restaurants (The Shore Club, Toratatsu, Goldfish Pacific Kitchen, the new Hapa, Boneta, Metro, ), the next wave is quietly soldiering on.
Voya at The Loden looks to be quite a while away (pictured above). It’s very much a shell, but the exterior is quite Coal Harbouresque with some lovely competing symmetries. It’ll fit right in. I heard the rumour that Marc-Andre Choquette might not be cooking there after all, but he’s been uploaded as a Loden employee at ChefDB.com (so balls to that).
Cobre, as we discovered earlier today, had a bunch of people over for an pre-intro intro, but there’s still a while to go. Witnesses say it’s muy bonita (no kitty corner pun intended). D-day is July 25th. If you haven’t seen it, the menu looks killer.
The Glowbal Group’s Italian Kitchen (the front bar on the main floor pictured above) on Alberni is still on track for the second or third week of August. Rumours of an opening street party with Ferraris abound (Emad throws a mean party). Executive chef Ryan Gauthier (nicknamed “Gootch”) is now pulling shifts on the line at Sanafir after spending his first month with the company at Glowbal.
Deuce on Lonsdale in North Vancouver is coming along quickly and should be ready by the end of July.
There are many more interspersed with these (including Plan B pictured below), and even more to follow.
May we live interesting times.
