Flite Nearly There

UPDATE: They’re open. See video here.

I snapped this shot last night of Flite, the new wine bar and small plates joint currently under construction in the cursed Lucky Diner location in Yaletown. Looks kind cool. More info as it arrives…but word in the forum is that they’re very close to opening.

Just spoke with the owners and Flite will be doing a ’soft’opening tomorrow night (saturday) for friends, family, acquaintances, and fellow foodies, should space allow. The room looks great, and I’m excited to see a great looking wine menu with ‘flites’ to offer its guests.

OK - This was definitely worth waiting for. It’s beautiful interior and the staff - at least our server anayway, was amazing and knowledgable. However, I did forget his name. Regardless he was great.

We weren’t expecting to be there, just walking by and noticed they finally opened.

Great vibe! We were there an hour, and if we didn’t need to be elsewhere, would have spent the entire evening. Owners seem fun and vibrant and it appears they’ve hit the ground running. Good time. Will definitely go back.

We were going to give flite a second try last night, but one step through the door we were overwhelmed by the volume of the music and decided to investigate a more civilized venue. During our first visit we wound up having to shout at each other to be heard over the “background music” and were disappointed to find a shortage of some of the items on the menu. We did have a decent glass of wine but, given the name we were expecting something more.

Got to agree … from the street, Flite looks like a dream come true. Nice surroundings, intimate seating arrangements, good lighting, and inviting decor. But, once the door opens, whew!!! The music was so loud that I only got to poke my head inside. We opted opted for a marina side restaurant that had had its run for the evening.

When will the Yaletown restaurants realize that patrons want to have a normal conversation over drinks and food instead of shouting at one another over screeching, abrasive music from gangster rap to horn blowing jazz.

Please select a genre and volume of music that enhances the guest experience.

We came to the soft opening and haven’t been back since. We learned the pastry chef is no longer there as she has never been paid for the hard work she did leading up to opening.

Get a life and pay your employees!

Being an employee of Flite restaurant has allowed me to gain an amazing new palette for great wines, at a more that reasonable price. Being a young Yaletown venue, the innovative attraction is; a peoples wine program up to sommelier wine list. This spectacular infusion allows the diversity in Yaletowns residents, to enjoy “their place” that returns them day in day out. As for the food menu, I look forward to my shifts to enjoy, not only the favorites, but as well as the daily specials. Thanks for all the local and out of town support and I look forward to the many years to come.
